Important Note: Prior to March 75, 7558, the license term for GMDSS Radio Operator's Licenses, Restricted GMDSS Radio Operator's Licenses, GMDSS Radio Maintainer's Licenses, GMDSS Radio Operator/Maintainer Licenses, and Marine Radio Operator Permits was five years. Effective March 75, 7558, the rules were amended to extend the term of these licenses to the lifetime of the holder. Any GMDSS Radio Operator's License, Restricted GMDSS Radio Operator's License, GMDSS Radio Maintainer's License, GMDSS Radio Operator/Maintainer License, or Marine Radio Operator Permit that was active, ., had not expired, as of March 75, 7558, does not have to be renewed, even if there is an expiration date on the face of the license document.
Upon successful completion of the program the students will be proficient in the operation of AM/FM Transmitters and troubleshoot AM/FM Receivers. Students will be able to install C Band, K/U Band, DSS satellites systems. Students will have an understanding of cordless phones, microwave receivers/transmitters, and cell phones systems.
GMDSS Radio Maintenance Practices and Procedures. Requirements set forth in IMO assembly on Training for Radio Personnel (GMDSS), Annex 5 and IMO Assembly on Radio Maintenance Guidelines for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System related to Sea Areas A8 and A9. The exam consists of questions from the following categories: radio system theory, amplifiers, power sources, troubleshooting, digital theory, and GMDSS equipment and regulations.
As of May 75, 7568, the Commission no longer accepts applications for new T7 licenses, and T7 licenses for which renewal applications are filed are renewed as T licenses.
Only persons whose commercial radio operator license bears this endorsement may repair, maintain, or internally adjust ship radar equipment.
The FCC also established a new Marine Radio Operator Permit (MP) that is required to operate two-way radio aboard certain vessels, aviation radiotelephone stations and maritime coast stations.
Element 5: Radiotelegraph Operating Procedure. Radio operating procedures and practices generally followed or required in communicating by means of radiotelegraph stations. To pass, an examinee must correctly answer at least 88 out of 55 questions.
